Internal Medicine & Pediatrics (Combined) Residency

Thank you for your interest in our combined program in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Beaumont Hospital. The program was established in 1981, making it one of the first combined Med/Peds programs in the country.

Med/Peds residents are assigned alternately to the Medical Service and the Pediatric Service and have the same duties and responsibilities as traditional Medicine and Pediatric residents. The program offers the flexibility necessary to prepare physicians to enter primary care in both specialties, or to continue in Medicine and/or Pediatric sub-specialty fellowships. Completion of the four-year Med/Peds residency allows a physician to be eligible for certifying examinations of both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics. Graduates from the Med/Peds program are generally eligible for hospital privileges in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.

One may wonder what distinguishes our Medicine/Pediatric Residency Program from other combined programs and from the Medicine and Pediatric Residency Programs at Beaumont. First, we have our own Program Director and our own administrative office. Although we work closely and together with the Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics, our residents have a place to call "home". We have our own Residency Coordinator, who is available to the residents for their administrative needs and questions, concerns or matters they may need assistance with. The Program Director of the Med/Peds Program is a graduate of this program. He has seen the program evolve, change and improve, and has experienced the program first hand.
