The urology training program is dedicated to developing the complete urologist through a carefully integrated program of extensive clinical experience and academic activities including conferences, lecture and research. Resident responsibility for quality patient care is emphasized and progresses, under supervision, from endoscopic exposure, minor urological procedures and surgical assisting, to the total performance of all types of major urological surgery including robotic assisted procedures. Senior residents are given additional teaching and administrative responsibilities including the supervision of medical students from a variety of institutions who rotate through our service. Individual research activities are encouraged.
The Center features a surgical skills and tissue lab where up to 40 surgeons-in-training can practice individual and group surgical skills. Physicians can build psychomotor capabilities using minimally invasive surgical techniques. They can rehearse technical skills ranging from simple suturing to complex neurosurgery. Flat-panel TV screens and a two-way communication system enable participants to view and interact with doctors worldwide.
