The Beaumont Health System Department of Continuing Medical Education (CME) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ to physicians and other healthcare providers. Beaumont received Accreditation with Commendation from the ACCME in July 2011 demonstrating that Beaumont is a learning organization and a change agent for the physicians we serve.
Purpose: The purpose of William Beaumont Hospital’s (WBH) (dba Beaumont Health System) Continuing Medical Education Program (CME) is to provide opportunities for life-long learning for physicians. The overall goal is to develop and implement creative, ethical, and evidence-based educational opportunities that are designed to increase physician competence, enhance practice performance, promote patient safety, and, where applicable, improve patient outcomes in the populations served by the healthcare providers we educate.
WBH CME activities are directed toward healthcare professionals, including physicians, advance practice providers, clinical researchers, and other allied healthcare professionals within the Beaumont Hospital system as well as at the local, regional and national levels.
In order to accomplish our educational goals, WBH uses a variety of activities based on the identified need and physician gaps in practice, the content and the desired results of the activity. The CME activities include live seminars and/or workshops; web-based enduring materials, simulation training; ongoing faculty development series; and departmental regularly scheduled series (grand rounds, tumor boards, mortality/morbidity conferences, journal clubs).
The content of WBH’s CME activities will cover both primary care and medical specialties as appropriate with the ACGME/ABMS core competencies as a platform from which activities will be planned. Activity topics will address communication skill development, in addition to clinical practice guidelines related to improvement of patient quality of life; diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease; clinical research; and ethics and safety considerations for patients.
Learners are expected to gain competence in their approach to clinical problem solving, apply newly acquired strategies in their practice, and change their performance in order to provide evidence-based and patient-centered care.
The purpose of the CME Committee is to provide insight and guidance on the strategic direction of Beaumont Hospitals’ CME program. Members serve as representatives and liaisons for their departments, advocates for CME and final arbiters in disputes on regulatory requirements. Members include physicians and allied health professionals involved in CME and leadership from compliance, hospital and health-system units. For additional information regarding this committee, please contact Dr. Todd Wilkinson, CME Committee Chair at 248-551-0481.
